Track160’s experience: Through the Eyes of an InterN

By: Eli Gurin

It all started with a decision I made to go on a gap year before starting my college life, studying engineering at the University of Denver. I was living in Tel-Aviv when I was given the option to have a 3-month internship at Track160 and jumped at the opportunity immediately. You may ask why? Well, because it combined two things I love: Football and the analytics that’s behind it. Track160 gave me a first glance at the inner-working of the football data world and the groundbreaking technologies that help leverage it to win more matches. But it did more than just that.

Before I started my internship, I thought I had a pretty solid understanding of what common statistics and metrics coaches use to better their team’s performance, but I have to say that Track160’s product goes above and beyond in that aspect and left me breathless more than once. It’s not just the unique insights Coach160 (the actual name of the solution) provides its users, but the simplicity of use that makes it accessible to guys like me who have no prior experience with tech.

It took one short intro from a colleague, and 10 minutes later I found myself producing video clips in seconds (with no need to manually tag events), browsing through performance reports of players, and learning about metrics that are exclusive to the product (like “dangerosity” or “player load”). I might be biased but knowing what I know now - about Track160 and the industry - I would recommend using Coach160 and have a strong belief in the value it holds for almost every stakeholder in a football club.

But that’s not all I have to say about the company.

When I came into the office for my first day, I didn’t quite know what to expect. A young intern with no formal tech background in an office that speaks the language of AI, deep learning, and computer vision… but I was welcomed with open arms. Everyone I worked with was always kind and ready to help me with anything I needed to feel comfortable. After only 3 months of hard work, I was able to build strong, lasting connections. Can’t wait to come back for a visit.
